Celebrating the railway in Carlisle
Virgin Trains has offered passengers a unique insight into the railway in Cumbria with our first Railway Day at Carlisle station. This follows investment to replace the station’s roof and refurbish the old station buffet into the 301 Miles from London pub.
Bringing together industry partners, businesses and community groups, the event celebrated the railway and its importance to Carlisle and the wider region of Cumbria, whilst helping to raise money for Virgin Trains’ charity partner, Rethink Mental Illness, and Carlisle Eden Mind.
Visitors to the station were able to learn more about the local railway lines that connect into Carlisle through drone footage, model railway displays, memorabilia, artwork, entertainment, and pop-up stands from local attractions.
Workshops hosted by Virgin Trains gave children the opportunity to announce trains and dispatch a locomotive.
