Record numbers of passengers travelling to Cumbria and Scotland on the west coast
New figures show that over a half a million journeys (517,000) were taken on trains between London and Cumbria over the past year and 28% more passengers are travelling between London and Glasgow Oxenholme (the gateway to the Lake District) was the most popular destination, with 55% of journeys to the region being made between London and Oxenholme. Following the devastating floods of 2015, we worked with others in the region to promote tourism and offered discounted fares to flood-hit areas. New figures show that Virgin Trains carried 294,000 passengers between Glasgow and London over a 24-week period to 31 March 2017. This follows an increase in availability of £30 fares, driving customers to choose to travel by train rather than flying.
