The integrated rail and bus ticket to Keswick has relaunched for its third year, building on the success of a “virtual railway station” that is helping drive record public transport use to the Lake District. 

By adding Keswick as a destination in journey planners, customers can now book a single ticket for seamless travel by train to Penrith and onward by bus, making sustainable journeys to the North Lakes easier all year round. 

The initiative, delivered in partnership with other rail operators and Stagecoach, has contributed to significant growth in visitor numbers. Travel to Penrith has risen sharply, while bus journeys between Penrith and Keswick have also increased following improved service frequency. 

This collaborative approach is supporting wider sustainable tourism ambitions, encouraging more people to leave the car behind and explore the region by public transport. It also aligns with regional efforts to reduce congestion and protect the Lake District environment while improving connectivity for visitors and local communities.
