Recently, we shared an update on our approach to introducing a more demand-led timetable over the summer period. 

As part of FY27 planning, we have worked with the Department for Transport to identify ways to reduce subsidy while supporting growth. In response, we developed a short trial removing a small number of lower-demand weekday services over six weeks, when passenger numbers are typically lower. 

This approach reduces operational costs without impacting revenue or significantly affecting most customer journeys. Services selected are those with lighter loads, while maintaining sufficient capacity and avoiding gaps on busier routes. The changes represent around 10% of weekday services and seats, with most adjustments made before tickets went on sale to minimise disruption. 

We will continue to increase services where demand is higher and review passenger numbers weekly, with flexibility to reinstate services if needed. The trial also supports operational resilience, helping reduce cancellations and maintain reliable services.
