Our Colleagues Trek Mount Kilimanjaro for Charity

On 12 March 2026, wsuccessfully reached the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro with a team of eight colleagues, completing a week-long trek in support of Railway Children. The group covered 69 kilometres over seven days, tackling diverse terrain from rainforest to scree to reach 5,895 metres, the highest point in Africa.

Together with industry partners, the challenge has raised nearly £50,000 to help vulnerable children and young people experiencing homelessness around transport hubs in the UK, India and Tanzania.

During the trip, we also visited a Railway Children project in Mwanza, seeing first-hand how funds support family-based care and protect at-risk children through initiatives such as the Fit Person programme, a government initiative that supports some of the country’s most vulnerable children and is funded by the charity.

The funds raised could help establish more than 20 Child Help Desks in Tanzania or support the charity’s UK work for several weeks, strengthening protection for children across the rail network and beyond.
